Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn't know this. It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it. Be sure and show it to your kids. They need a little history lesson on what's what . And it doesn't matter whether you are Democrat of Republican. Facts are facts!!!
Our Social Security
Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:
1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary.
2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual incomes into the Program,
3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year,
4.) That the money the participants put into the Independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the General Operating Fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other government program, and,
5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.
Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the federal government to 'put away', you may be interested in the following:
-------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Which political party took Social Security from the Independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the General Fund so that Congress could spend it?
A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically-controlled House and Senate.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Which political party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?
A: The Democratic Party.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Which political party started taxing Social Security annuities?
A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the 'tie -breaking' deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the U.S.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Which political party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?
A: That's right!
Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party.
Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, they began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them even though they never paid a dime into it!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!
And the worst part about it is, uninformed citizens believe it!
AND CONGRESS GIVES THEMSELVES 100% RETIREMENT FOR ONLY SERVING ONE TERM!!!
***Just found this interesting... Jeff***

with an agenda..you can make facts say anything you want..look at your REPUBLICAN president...and his REPUBLICAN controlled congress during the early part of his first term...REPUBLICANS are responsible for letting thousands of Americans die in a meaningless conflict...See how the facts can be twisted? Majority doesn't reflect the entire Party..Just because there is majority democrats in congress/senate doesn't = 100 percent democrats in office. Party politics is childish...just like the Bloods and Crips. Who cares what party they belong in...all of them are crooked. They never reflect the majority of Americans....

Actually, I've been in this arena long enough to have a fairly good understanding of how (NOT THE FACTS!), but how a 'point of view' can be effective in making a point.
And, while I AM registered as a Republican, I have NO desire to see many of the jerks in congress NOT 'do their jobs'...
As for my 'presonal thoughts' on it - I CAN see dealing with problems in Afghanistan. CAN'T see the link to Iraq. I figured long ago that the al-queda deal would be used to 'connect' Agghanistan and Iraq... ?surprise?
As for ANY politician - I don't vote for them to get into Congress, and ARGUE, especially along party lines. As a taxpayer, I AM THEIR BOSS, and I think the majority of them should be FIRED, because they're standing around doing nothing but pointing fingers at others, rather than doing their jobs, DEALING WITH THE SITUATION!
Would be nice if the politicians actually managed to figure out that THEY WORK FOR THE CITIZENS, *NOT* the other way around.
Problem seems to be that the people are afraid of the government. That's wrong. The government should be afraid of the citizens, because that IS who they have to ANSWER TO!
After all, take a look at the approval ratings for congress. Doesn't that tell everybody, that they just need to be replaced, with people who WILL work for the betterment of ALL americans, and NOT just those who thirst for power...
Just one fed-up american's viewpoint.
(And one american who doesn't like being held responsible for the financial mess created by investment companies and the like. That's THEIR problem, NOT the taxpayer's!!!)
Off soapbox,
Jeff

I've learned a lot about those 2 'parties', and there's an interesting history, one that would probably surprise more than a few.
(My stepson is black, and I'm learning one heck of a lot from him, on MANY subjects...)

And, just while I'm thinking about it...
The 'US Taxpayer' is expected to be available to 'bail out' things like loans to banks, now loans to investment companies, now again Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac (I may be a little off on the exact specifics...)
So, with the government coming to the people to bail IT out - well, seems to me that it might not be the wisest choice to 'plan' on having the 'government' bail the PEOPLE out...
(Well, unless you're a bank or investment company, in which case, you can screw up on a HUGE scale, and not be held responsible. To me, that's just WRONG!)
Just cuz you're big, doesn't mean that you're not capable of making mistakes, and should be held to task for those mistakes, YOURSELF, rather than depending on someone else (I believe that would be us 'lowly' taxpayers) to bail you out. How about joining the real world, and suffering the consequences of your own mistakes. Isn't that one of the 'prices' of FREEDOM?
Anyway, if anybody has any good suggestions on where to keep funds in another country, cheap, let me know. I'm with a large bank, but - if they go bye bye (unlikely, but POSSIBLE!), want to have a 'plan b' in place...
I'm only 3 hours from Mexico, but I don't own any property there, so I'll keep looking for a 'safe haven', so to speak.
Why? Because I don't like being involved in 'programs' run by those who can't see what's right in front of them. (Uh - that would be the US Government, in case anyone's wondering...)
I'll keep doing what I'm doing, and what I feel is right, but - usually best to consider ALL possibilities...

oh by the way...I am registered Democrat...I am a long time Mccain fan...don't ask me why...He should have run a long time ago...I don't care for many of the democrats sitting today...accept for a select few.
I would have rather seen Clinton vs McCain...but maybe we can do better with a fresh set of inexperienced eyes/hands...I really do hate politics...but no matter how hard you try to stay away from it...you tend to side with one or the other....or in the middle (in which I sit)...which is why I love McCain. He is old..a little senile...but he is cool...calm...and he definitely isn't afraid to kick a fellow republican in the butt....
Back on the subject of Social Security. It was flawed from the beginning...a government version of the ponzi scheme
The smart thing to do...get your money out of any American investments or banks...however...that's why the IRS/Government is stepping up anti money laundering campaign
I heard of this one country where alot of the rich were hiding their money....it was on the news a while back...big big deal..some European territory...one of the few with truly anonymous banking....
I plan on retiring in the European Union..hopefully by then, America would wise up and fix the health care and social security mess. Maybe they will unite the canadian, us, and mexican currencies (maybe central and south america as well)

Agreed.Democrats are reacting positively to social issues rather than republicans.Ok I congratulate you taking strong position in this ideological battle.
