I would avoid WAMU and Wachovia now because of the issues in the US financial world -- these two banks may go under or be acquired. You would not lose any money as you are insured but it might be a pain the arse.

IF you can travel to the US and open an account it is free. Banks do not charge fees to open an account, you just have to put in the initial deposit. BUT be advised it is extremely difficult to find a bank that will accept someone without a SSN or tax ID number. But again, it has to be done IN PERSON in the US.

On their web sites they all state you must have a social security number, so it would be almost impossible to open a personal account, Your only real chance is to try and open a corporate account with a US LLC with EIN, but again you have to visit the US in person.
