You first need to pay 65 dollars for the gold membership (membership fee + setup fee). Afterwards you have the gold membership for 1 month. As long as you want to invest in a plan, you need to have a membership active.

If you want to keep spending into the 3% plan, you
have to remain a "Gold" member. That would cost you
$60/month. If you have the auto-renew turned on,
the $60 would automatically be paid from your account
balance (every month).
I think that it's best to be a "Gold" or "Silver" member
because the 2% & 3% plans increase your earnings.
If you keep $100 in the 2% plan, that would pay for
your "Gold" membership every month. Anything that you
have spent after that would be icing on the cake - all
withdrawable every month.
