Trojans?: Any standard firewall will do - ZoneAlarm, Outpost, Sygate, etc.
Spyware: Ad-aware, Spy Doctor, Spybot, HijackThis.

I'd have to say ewido is probably the best out of all that I've used, and I've used just about all the free anti-spyware/virus/trojan software out there.

Obviously, you want more than one software solution for your security. But, ewido takes the cake - and most independent tests prove it. Most people, including the author of HiJackThis and the people who give advice at spywareinfo.com endorse it too.

Ad-aware is a definite must for any pc user. I also use eTrust Pest Patrol.

Anti-spyware: Ad-Aware with Spybot to cover it.
