Hello, interesting forum you have here, but then when it comes to talking about how to make money it usually is interesting.

Bad luck yesterday but that was bound to happen as soon as you started posting here.

Why the same stake on the win as the place though? If you're doing that why not 1pt win 1pt place or are you going to vary stakes after a losing day?

Well, not too much Betfair Busting going on in this thread at the moment but at least a small profit was had today, and the next best thing to winning large amounts of money is of course winning small amounts of money!
Before todays figures I would just like to have a moan, Speedro at 20-1 was the all-over winner of the 13.20 at Ayr, but forgot to jump the last hurdle - fell.
OK, today 13 selections 3 wins and 4 others placed.

After -5% deduction on winnings and deductions for price reductions due to non-runners in the markets I come out today with a profit of.....

Profit today +3.66
Running total -3.64

Hello Profit-Watcher, I will try to explain for you. I select horses (UK) that I think will be placed either 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th (16+ runner hcps only) in their races.
I then use Betfair to place my bets, today for example there were 13 selections, the first selection was Green Pirate in the 13.00 Wolverhampton, the odds available at Betfair were 2.01 for the horse to be placed and 5.10 for the horse to win, I put 2pts on it for the place and 1pt on it to win, the horse came 2nd so I lost the 1pt stake on the win part of my bet but because it was placed 2nd I collected the 2pt place part of my bet, if it had won of course I would of collected on both the place and the win.
Hope that explained it for you?

it's hard to understand

Hi, sorry if it is hard to understand for people, is it hard to understand because of the way I set out the bets, or hard to understand because you are not familiar with how Betfair works? I don't want to post something that is no use to anyone.

Wouldn't this system be more long-term profitable if you were to bet on races where there are only five or six horses running with a strong favourite?

He probably doesn't understand the odds you're posting or maybe the staking? Also you haven't said a recommended bank. I would say minimum 100 point bank.

Todays selections are 2pt place and 1pt win, except for the 15.00 at Newbury which is 4pts place and 2pt win

Newbury
12.15 Marodima 1.97/6.8

So if your betting bank was 1000, a point would be 10 so today you would be backing Marodima 20 to place and you have backed at 1.97 which is 0.97/1 on the place market and 10 to win which you have already backed at decimal odds 6.8 which is 5.8/1.

He probably doesn't understand to win and place :) Maybe you should explain those so everyone is clear with it. I don't think a lot of people here bet on horses. Can you give a track record of your performance for say 6 months ? It would be interesting to see. How do you choose your picks ? Do you have a system, are you getting them from the morning Sun or just a feeling ?
