View Full Version : 124 consecutive winning bets

Hi guys,
I'm not on here for any monetary gain - just thought I'd start putting up my lays on the site in order to maintain my discipline.
I have been laying horses for a couple of years and have made some very pleasant profits. As is alluded to in the title, I have put together fantastic winning runs - the best of these was one hundred and twenty four.
I should point out that the prices I lay at will put many people off. Often the prices on BF are around 20 - 28/1. People scoff at this, but to £100 level stakes the 124 would have brought in a profit of just under 12k after commission. I'm sure most people could tolerate a 2.5k loss at this point for a 9k + net profit. I am not suggesting anybody follow my selections as I have a strong conscience and don't advocate the high liabilities of my bets. My average lay's liability now constitutes about 5% of my bank. Money management is key, as I'm certain you all know.
Cheers guys.
PS Now watch as everything goes t*ts up. Ha ha.

Here goes then.
I am out and about tomorrow, so I want to avoid aftertiming with my post. It's currently 1.30am ish UK time. I have no BF prices for these selections as yet, but they are all around 10 - 14/1 on RPost's site.
Ludlow
2.00 - Khadija
3.00 - Dan's Heir
4.30 Cash in Hand
Ayr
2.50 - Scrappie
3.20 - Joyful jack
5.20 - Sodantay
Can't say I'm completely confident about these selections, but that could be exposure nerves.

Hi Cheffe,
Thanks for your comment. Interestingly enough I was talking to a friend earlier today and mentioned this very thing. My selections - although in my opinion all but unable to win the race - do seemingly have a knack for finishing in the first three. I have kept no good records, so am unable to assert whether or not I am just more aware of a place as it's something of a 'turn up' or it does in fact occur with reasonable regularity.
No need to post today's results as 'expert' has kindly taken the trouble on my behalf.

Hi,
Wasn't really focussed last night so played it safe by opting out. However, I have looked again today and have one lay selection:
Wolv 3.30 - Homes by woodford (20)
Had a long look at Desert Hawk in the 2.20 but one of my criterian was not met; pointless having a systematic approach and then not implementing it.
Cheers.

Hi all,
Time to make this more interesting. The only way to do that is to add a finacial aspect.
I won't be revealing my actual bank, but will use in its stead a virtual bank of £1000 to keep things simple.
I will be largely borrowing my staking system from a well-known layer. A truly gracious person, I'm sure she won't mind.
As I said in my original post, I have been doing this for a while now and usually implement two levels of liability - 5% and 7% depending on price. So the new staking isn't too far removed.
here are the price bands and percentage of bank I will use as a stake:
15 and under - 0.8%
16 - 20 - 0.6%
21 and over - 0.4%
Bank will be updated daily for altered staking.
As this is the STAKE and not the liability, the risk is a little higher than some will be comfortable with. With this system one really has to be comfortable with the notion of large lumps being lost, but, hopefully, very infrequently.
Here's how things have gone so far
3.00 - Dan's Heir 27 £4
4.30 Cash in Hand 26 £4
Ayr
2.50 - Scrappie 21 £4
3.20 - Joyful jack 15 £8
5.20 - Sodantay 28 £4
Wolv 3.30 - Homes by woodford 20 £6

Original bank: £1000
Profit/(loss) so far: £28.5

Hi IWLG,
hows your xpoker going, we were in contact long time ago about automation. No more poker for me since I live in Australia now, where we are blocked from xgames.
Good luck with your lays. The staking plan and results reportings seems very familiar to me. Are you planing, too, to let it run for one year and then stop with 100K ;-)
If so I should start following you straightaway not to miss out as I did with M.
cheers
dtm

03-25-2007, 10:21 AM
Hi dtm,
Thanks for your comments. I played around with the X-games for a while. Made a nice amount but then lost a fair bit of it ans recognised a pattern of my profits being gradually 'sucked back' and so stopped playing. I came away with a profit and, from what I understand in reading the forum, I am the exception rather than the rule. Phew.
As I said in an earlier post, I did decide to use M's staking and reporting. My own staking was very similar anyway - just a few tweaks which obviously have proved profitable. I also think that reporting monetary gains mean far more to people than points. Maybe that's just me.
As for the 100k; highly unlikely from a £1000 starting bank. It took M about four months to double her bank so if I achieved that I would still be well down on her starting bank. The good news is, I've been doing this for a couple of years already ;-)

Here they are:

2.20 So wise so young
2.55 Monzon (lay place) 22 (Back win) 150 something a little different, but a betting method I use sometimes. Risky for me as I have a knck for finding 2nd place horses - the only finish which will cost me in this race.

Hi guys,
With the racing looking horrid from my perspective, I'm taking the day off (sunny day outside so not the most difficult decision - one has to live too). I have looked through the cards three times and usually my lays all but jump out at me - if I'm forcing the issue then they're not there.
I will look with interest at Lady wilde in the 3.40 at ascot - no bet though, partly because the race is down to 7 runners.
Also was looking at the 2.15 but the fav is now a non-runner.
See you all tomorrow

Hi Antinomian,
First, I hope I have spelt your username correctly. Second, as I wrote in my first post, the purpose of this thread is to enhance my discipline. I have been laying horses for some time and have made some pleasant and steady profits. That said, my figures clearly show that had I stuck rigidly to my selections only and not deviated off into the dark world of 'gut feel' etc, I would be far richer.
The only monetary gain I aspire to is that which is generated from placing lay bets on these selections.
Thanks for the enquiry.
Good discipline and good luck.

All a little shorter today. Somewhat tentative as the flat is just starting out and finding its feet (hooves?).
I am due a loser so no surprise if it happens today (my run on this site is 23, but I was 27 consecutive prior to posting here and my average win/loss ratio is 50:1)

Hi Guys,
Tuesday 3rd April will be a no bet day for me. It's the transition period of the year when the somewhat unpredictable sport of horseracing becomes something of a lottery. The jump meet throws up no appeal.
Back soon.

Hi all,
Things very slow at the moment as the flat season gets established. Pretty much anything can win any race. April and October are difficult times usually with the transition in race type. Experience has taught it's more profitable to all but sit it out.
Therefore, just one today

Well, it happened. Feel slightly vindicated as I said that it was pretty much a lottery at the moment. Still unfortunate and april is always a good month to sit things out. I will press on though.
The run on here was 26 without loss. My personal run was 53 without loss which is about average, so hopefully I'll be able to string together a nice run now.

Hi guys,
Ha ha. Some people are truly blessed - to place a back bet on my only 'loser' to date takes a great deal of good fortune. For reassurances, I have over two years' figures of laying showing a healthy profit so, though we have the odd loser, over time the profits are substantial.
I actually placed a win bet on this horse and laid it to place as there were seven runners - this means only a second palce finish results in a loss (a method I have already outlined in this thread ). As I didn't put that info on my original post (before I decided to do the bet that way), I have reflected the figures as a pure loss.
