its englands bets chance in 40years. abit of luck and they will win.
Perhaps it's England best chance after all - the last time England where losing their manager before a World Cup finals - Italia 90 - result beaten semi finalists - it bodes well.
For me though I don't see England being nearly good enough.
Their record at major finals stinks...1966 (home soil), Italia 90 and Euro 96 (home soil) apart they are 2nd only to Spain in terms of the great underachievers.
Apart from 5-1 v Germany and 1-0 v Aregntina in last WC they have struggled under Erikkson. Recently beaten 4-0 (4-1?) by Denmark & 1-0 by N. Ireland. Not only beaten but badly struggled in these games and in the game v. Wales.
While they have some world class players they don't have enough and have gaps in some positions.
John Terry is world class, but needs someone with pace/speed beside him - u couldn't base ur defence on Rio Ferdinand. Other options are Sol Campell and Jamie Carragher - for me it would have to be Carragher.
Lampard & Gerrard are world class but too similar - they don't complement each other. Both are strong tackling central midfielders who like to get forward as often as possible. Leaves too many gaps in central (I can see Ronaldhino liking his lips as we speak).
Left hand side of midfield - permanent problem there isn't anyone and there hasn't been anyone for a long time.
Beckham on the RHS - everyone has their own opinion of him as a player and captain.
Rooney again world class and no one better. However as with Euro 2004 in Portugal - an entire team and nation's expectations are lumped onto his shoulders. An injury (ala Euro 2004) or loss of form and everyone is instantly deflated.
Owen is the obvious choice to put up front with Rooney. He's currenly and regularly injured. Will he be fit & ready - they said that Beckham was fit & ready for the last WC finals after his injury - he clearly wasn't. That aside, for me Owen is a born loser ! I don't think he's had a full season w/o injury - misses about 6-8 weeks per season. Add to that - he was 1 of Liverpool's best players leaves for a dream move to Real Madrid in the summer before Liverpool go on to win the Champions League. The moves turns into a nightmare and he returns to Newcastle.
Goalkeepers - James, Robinson etc. none of them come close to David Seaman and he had some beaties towards the end.
From a betting point of view everyone is going to back England. This will make their odds very skinny and increase the attraction of their opposition.
See you on Betfair!

I go into every world cup expecting Brazil and Argentina to do well, and England to underachieve, and I don't really expect any different this time around either.
Although we do have probably the best chance in many years to win it, I can't see us being good enough to go all the way.

Wayne Rooney faces a race against time to be fit for the World Cup after being carried off with a foot injury."
"FRESH WORRY OVER OWEN
By Ken Gaunt, PA Sport
Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder has played down fears that Michael Owen may have suffered a severe recurrence of his foot injury.
The £17million striker limped off at full-time after a 28-minute run-out in the 0-0 draw against Birmingham, which condemned the hosts to relegation.

oh poor rooney and oven, poor England, why such incident happened at the most critical time.
lol england really do get bad luck at the wrong time.
i still think rooney will play at the wrold cup but it may not be until the knockout stages.
owen will play but may not be 100% fit.
gonna be a close call

I honestly think Rooneys injury may have WON england the world cup. If he had been fit we'd go for 4 4 2, playing one of lampard/gerrard or out of position. Rooney would do well, but all you'd need is him to have an off game and we'd be done. Sven wouldn't risk changing thinks.
If he comes along fine, and it's great to have him to come off the bench but imo a better STARTING line up (eithe 4 5 1 or 4 1 4 1) is Neville, Ferdinand, Terry, A. Cole, Beckham, Gerrard, Carrick, Lampard, J.Cole, Owen.
richard_jayzen
05-05-2006, 02:52 AM
i just hope rooney will get back into action in time. If he cant play in the group stage, then at least he is well off and ready to play for the knock-off stages. Without him is such a great loss in attacking power though owen is one of the kind but with the combination of both, the attacking power can go as high as 99%. Whiew:party smi :party smi

Bad luck for England and Rooney. :(
I think it's "GOOD LUCK" actually, imagine Rooney's temperament in a heated game.....RED!!! I just want to see someone STAND UP TO THE PLATE! I think the midfield will rule the day, if Ferdinand dosen't go to sleep; who knows how far England would go! I'm guessing semis! I hope to see them PLAY GOOD FOOTBALL, not like the "Beckham" case like before...shoot your own foot type of mentality!
Stevie G's gonna rule; he stands out when strikers are down! Lampard too for sure! And England's definately has got the most talented goalie for some years....imagine they had James in the squad! :lolol:

MY GOD! :lolol: BROTHER, Beckham was absolete in that game, a mere spectator! It was Michael Owen who drew the penalty just before half-time, and also hit the Argentine post. And yes, penalty which Michael "the kite" Owen fell down at the slightest contact! Argentina almost totally controlled the possession in the match and poured the pressure, but they were consistently missing the final ball.
If the game was repeated, you wouldn't bet your dollar on England winning that game! It was poor finishing on argentina's part! Juan Pablo Sorin was obviously the best player that day!
I go for BRASIL myself but appreciate a good game....not one settled by that type of goal.....NO, to me England should'nt have won, but they put on a better display against Brasil!
Back to Rooney, if he goes, you'll be leaving behind..maybe Defoe..."Croaked" Rooney for a speedy player is NOT smart! Anyway, mentality wise...anybody is better than Rooney, except maybe Viera...but thats a different story!
My God it gets better....have you seen the provisional England squad...
Not only have England no chance of wininng the WC they will struggle to get past the group phase.
See you on Betfair.

Truth is ERICSSON sucks! They should've gotten rid of the little cheeky CRAP! No heart! BIG problem, coaching with no heart!
Likely lose the 1st game to "minnows" Paraguay! These SAmericans are hot & always have heart! (Notice the ground touching & making the sign of the cross?)
I think it's up to Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard combo with maybe a helping hand form Robinson. They obviously need someone like "Defoe" to step up (Peter Crouch won't need to because he's too tall already, ha!) The defense is it's weakest link with Neville the Devil & Ferdinand! (He belongs in the lower divisions) I can say this for now; no way Rooney can play a game & shine, as for Owen, if he plays, I hope he dosen't break something else! "The Kite" is fragile since coming back from Spain! These SA buggers will break his other foot!
The only chance for ENGLAND is to ask for a draw & work their way up! If they take the first game lightly & lose, Sweden will most definately seek a draw when they play in the 2nd game, lastly they will meet the whipping boys who might just play their last game "FOR PRIDE"! Tough!:*****:

It seems you'll get 50% of your predictions right! It's Barca whopping for you & best England will go is a Quarters spot where they'll get whooped if they play that croaked Rooney, (meeting.......ooh, lucky you....ARGENTINA.....again......{if both Eng & Arg finish top of their group/if not, they meet Germany in the 2nd round-& they ain't gonna like that either!!!) although I must admit, the only way they are gonna do that is if they play "Premiership Class" in the middle of the park! Yep, Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham; it seems! Maybe Cole will be there but I can't see anything from the others! No profolic men in front! Sad!
It's BRESIL for me.......+ Argentina or Holland!

It's not about star or no star! I think it's all about "having heart"! I won't deny the English have this, it's perhaps their strongest weapon! As far as stars are concerned, you're wrong by the way! Steven Gerrard, David Beckham??? They don't come bigger than these two! These are the English knights! If they fight well, they may go far! No doubt! It's Ferdinand, Neville, these sort which will cause heartbreak in the English camp! Now, there's still a chance Rooney will play, but sure hope he dosent break the foot for good! It'll end his story!
You are sadly mistaken, england has no chance against a much stronger German team !
Don't be mistaken, now! I was commenting on the England factor only! They won't do well, I suppose.....they'll meet Argentina in the QFs!!! I support Bresiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiillllllllll lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll!!!!!!!!! Yes! That would be welcomed, Rich! If it happens, it's your $100 egold against mine, okay??? Ha! I think they are stronger without Rooney, I don't like his temperament! Arrogant! It's all in the middle, you know? If they work it out, they'll be unbeatable in the middle of the park! But, they seemed slow against Belarus! Sloppy!
Peter Beanpole is picking his own place in the starting 11! Whoever thought this would happen when he started his LIVERPOOL career??? Now, I bet the whole world is doing his ridiculous "shimmy"!!! Ha! A great joy to watch......even if he does tarnish good hard, reputable Scousers reputation in the process of his "very Bad MJ impressions"!!!
Cheers man, good luck to you!

If that happens, it'll be a great game but one sided results for us, dude! Germany ain't in the same class! They have home advantage this time around but it won't count for much in the knockout rounds, know what I mean? i doubt they'll be there with "the golden boys" at the final, but I'm watching their games......watching out for the"Neo Nazi" dudes! I donno, maybe there'll be trouble for the Iranians; with the nuclear debate & all! there could be a standoff or even rioting!
the other things to watch out for would be the "streakers".....ha! Ha! funny lot!!!

I can see from this "amateurish" remark of yours Richard, you're not a BIG England fan??? Or maybe just not from England???
1st of all, Cole never really plays on the wing; he just "adapts" as there are really so many other strikers before him! This dude is a striker! A good one at that, as well! But he's not really made out to play wide, speed ain't everything!
Secondly, Stevie can play in ANY position the coach puts him! He's just that; an exceptional footballer! The only position he won't do well in is in goal! His dad would wallop his "behind"! He's the Scouse who even in the Russian snow; dosen't wear gloves! He's a Scouse Catholic; his dad won't have it! But
GOD knows the boy plays like a raging bull in attack, so; yeah....you can play him "centre-back".....if you'd like England to LOSE!!!
Thirdly, lampard center-forward may do! But he needs to feed off somebody! He's not as good without Makelele! He's no Ronaldinho, you know??? But, why the heck would you want him there? Didn't I just say, Ol' Beanpole just scored a hattrick? Wouldn't he be an ideal centre???
You got one right this time. Yes, considerably stronger, more balanced! Excellent midfield; but not that much better than half a dozen more teams on display!
For me, my friends, it's BRESIL............GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

England sure win today. yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
CONGRATS to England!!! It seems i'm the first to post it.......1-0 England! (However, it was an own goal, the way they played in the 2nd half was unforgivable of any neutral spectator!!! POOR SHOW!!! NO CLASS!!)
Germany on the other hand 4-2......wow, impressive scoreline, especially for an opening match! But, naive & very very soft at the back! That's an awfully SUSPECT offside trap game they're playing & if they meet any stronger teams, other than the MINNOWS in their group; a lot of GERMAN fans will wish they hadn't qualified in the 1st place!!! But on the positive side of their game, I'd clap a few rounds for their attacking game & what wonderful "wonderbar" goals they scored.......worthy of the great Muller, i'd say of the last one! (They are the hosts.....auto qualification....GET IT???)
As for Poland, I had expected it!! Ha! ha! Ecuador 2-0 was well deserved, not the best display of football at the highest level; but a commendable display of defensive game with effective counter attacking plays for the Southies! Good job!
Now as I type, The Sweden game should be on soon! I'd expect the best loop sided game so far......3-0 for the silky haired ABBA fans, there. No rocket science needed to access the future here! Enjoy!
I hope I've the energy to withhold sleepiness......I'm waiting for the game so far......Argentina VS Elephants!! Wow! I hope it'll be memorable.....maybe 1-1 or 2-1 either way....most likely for Argie! Adidas vs Puma, Crespo vs Drogba, America vs Africa, Flair vs Strength, Experience vs Will power! What a game! For those who miss it......sorry; you'd have missed a game worthy to tell the world!! (I hope)
Enjoy the 2nd day......I havent slept 3 hours since the previous day! But my spirits are high & I'm having a blast! here we go......alez alez alez........
Cheers!

2nd half they had ben defending themselves very professionally and that was their tactic not to score too many goals as to preserve their energy and to avoid any injuries and by the way, 3 points is what they are aimning for and not the no of goals scored. :thumbs up :thumbs up :thumbs up.

I agree......1 goal + 3pts is much much better than 2 goals + 0 pts (Like costa rica) Between Eng & Germany game, i'd say the later was a little bit mor FINANCIALLY fun; but both the two joint second favourites showed very little class! Except for Karlsten Frings..........a DADDY of a goal! We'll remember that one for a long long long time!
But like I said before, ENGLAND is weak! Argentina & Ivory Coast on the other hand was a classy fight! Salute to the Argies, a well fought, well strategised win worthy of potential champs! The Elephants gallant fight till the death shows African might at it's best! I bet if they get there in Switzerland 2010, they'll be a force to be reckoned! I hope to see an African country WIN in 2010! I'm voting CAMEROON!
Hats off to Trinidad! T & T showed the world how to play SOCCA; not my cup of tea, really; but valiant show of courage! 1st ever point to them! Remember, that game was supposed to be a hrashing for the SOCA WARRIORS!!!
Today, my picks are Holland 1-0, slim but that's how serbia is! Tough defending! But i'm hoping for some magical 2-1 show! No way the Dutch can lose this or they can book their tickets home after 90 minutes!
Portugal will beat up ANGOLA! Civil war has & never will be kind to anyone, especially football! Mmm maybe 2-0 here!
Lastly, I believe in the gallantry of IRAN, these dudes shower fans with fast attacking football, almost a sure scoring game! FREE FLOW OF GOALS! I however always respect ARIBA ARIBA YIPPA YIPPA; tough tough opponents for IRAN........WAR will start........I am guessing 2-1 Mexico win, but tough to call.....maybe 4-3 even or 3-2. One things for sure is entertainment & goals!
Another GRRRRRRREAT DAY OF GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL! YAHOO!

I'm hoping the ol' Samba boys will play as to expectations tonight! Really looking foward to that game! They probably won't run rings around the Croats but expect a few dances & tip toe here & there!
My guess for that game....2-0 to the GOLDEN GANG!!!
S Korea might wing it 2-0 or 1-0 & I expect a "Mature" performance from the Swiss to hold down the French 0-0! If not, just a slim 1-0 to France!

HEY!!!!! HOW COME NOBODY IS "SPORTING" ENOUGH TO POST HERE?????
WHAT'S WRONG????
Lookie lookie....righty....righty.....,eh???
Tonight, i'm guessin' Ukraine to win their first ever points......boldly....I'd say 3!!! vs the Spainish! Maybe 2-1 as a likely scoreline!
I'm thinkin' 2-0 or even 3-0 to the Africans vs the "FRYING" SHEIKS!!!
Lastly, i'm game on a "POLISHED POLAND" holding the "MIGHTY....NOT" Germans to a 1-1 finish with a possibility of a penalty involved! If the "KLINSMAN KLAN" dosen't buck up the OFFSIDE TRAP....they may well.....later if not non at all be TRAPPED & bugger off themselves! The tempo must be SLOWED down if they are to enjoy any possibility of a win! Otherwise, their amateurism will be taken advantage of......POLISHED BY THE POLES; if you will.....
Wouldn't it be a pleasure to see MIGHTY OLIVER in goal for one final farewell....hats off to KHANN for his foresight & gentlemanly German support to his former "STAND IN"! He still is......standing there & watching the goals flow past him!!!
Cheers!!!

Gerrad has already scored in the finals of all major Europe tournaments and he delivered for England again.
Lampard had a frustrating night though...

Yep! StevieG is SUPERMAN! MR LIVERPOOL we call him! BIG BIG game player....that's why Mc Laren want's to make him captain!
Actually it WAS LIVERPOOL 2-0 T&T!!!
Although, I must say, I very much respect JT for his leadership as well as FANTASTIC vision & reflexes! THAT was the KEY point of that game! MAGNIFICENT display of courage by T&T!! Absolutely heroic display of WILLPOWER! Lack of goalscoring talent, maybe but great example of teamwork! I've said before; they WEAR their HEART on their sleeves!!!
Anyhow......ENGLAND SUCKS!!! T&T's inexperience in world play let them down towards the end! Frankly, they could have WON it if they had scored! Ha! Ha! I enjoyed the game though! All hail LIVERPOOL!!! (MY TEAM for almost 30 years)
SPAIN was on fire....I got that one really wrong! Great show of full force attacking power.....again; contribution from LIVERPOOL guys!! WOW! We're really putting on a show here! LEFT, RIGHT & CENTRE, we're scoring!!!:flame: :flame: :flame:
