This is how to get started on betfair without depositing any of your own money. It's great fun and you can make a tidy profit if you know what you're doing.
HEALTH WARNING: To get your invite from Betfair, and your free bet, I need to know your email address. If you aren't happy PMing me your email address, stop reading here. I think I've been here long enough that you can trust me not to spam your mail from here to eternity, if you don't think so then that's up to you.
WHAT HAPPENS FIRST
You get an email from Betfair inviting you to gamble with £20 of their money. That's not £20 that you can just withdraw, but you can gamble it and withdraw whatever your net winnings are. If you lose the lot, you don't have to pay it back. But if you win, that's your money to keep. So you want to win, and unless you can see into the future, or really trust your luck, then you'll need a system. As luck would have it, there are some suggested systems just below
LAY LAY LAY
To lay something is to bet that it won't happen. You're effectively being the bookie; people bet on something happening, you take their money if they're wrong and pay out if they're right. Best bet for this is probably the greyhounds.
Load up a market for a greyhound race. Set it to Advanced view; you need all the info you can get. Just above the odds are the "book percentages". You don't need to know how these are figured out, but you do need to make sure that the "Back" percentage is under 105 and the "Lay" percentage is over 95 before you bet. if it isn't, just wait, it will be soon. When it is, lay your bet.
Pick a dog that isn't the first or second favourite, and has odds of between 5 and 7. Lay a £2 bet and wait and see what happens. There are races about every 10 minutes so you can collect a lot of £2 stakes. If you lose, don't worry, keep going and you'll win a lot more often than you lose. Any if you're really unlucky and lay the winning dog in a load of consecutive races, well at least it wasn't your own money.
WHY IT WORKS:: economists call this a "Taleb distribution"; you'll win more often than you lose, but each individual loss will be bigger than the average win. It's good for going for a near-guaranteed win, when you've got nothing to lose, ie you haven't risked any of your own money.
"ARBS"
Notice the quote marks; this isn't exactly arbitrage as it isn't synchronous. It's risk-free so long as you can get both halves of your arb done before the market closes.
Watch the market on an event that's about to happen; a greyhound race in 5 minutes, for example. Some of the odds oscillate a bit; a particular dog might go from 6 to 7.5 and back again quite often, for instance. Offer a "back" bet at odds just over or equal to the "lay" bet available, when the odds are high. So, in this example, when the lay bet gets to 7.2, offer a "back" bet at 7.4. Bet £5. Your winnings would be £32 if the dog came in first. Then watch for the next drop in prices; when it hits 6.4, lay at 6.2. Lay £6. If the dog loses, you get the £6, if it wins you pay out £31.20.
The sharp-eyed among you will have noticed that the opposing odds cancel each other out, and leave a profit. If the dog wins, you're 80p up, if it doesn't then you're £1 up. Not much, but you can do it every 10 minutes, and as your winnings grow, you can grow your bets, so they're about a quarter of your bankroll each time, and You Too Can Have Compound Earnings!
"THE BLOKE DOWN THE SLATERS ARMS SAYS IT CAN'T LOSE" AND OTHER SIMILAR BETS
Of course, you're entitled to have a random punt on something else if you like, it's your money.
WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU'VE WON
I tend to withdraw £20 every time my balance gets to £60, but what you do is up to you; the safest system is to withdraw what you win straight away, and just gamble with the free £20 again. The most dangerous way, but also the one that will make the most money if it works, is to set a really high target (try £10,000, if you're feeling really really lucky) and not withdraw a penny till you hit that, making your bets bigger and bigger along the way.
READY?
Well, just PM me your email address and you can get started. I'll be keeping this thread updated with any other gambling tactics people want to know about, an you can post your stories below, wether they're great (I won a Gazillion pounds! Yippee!) or a bit crap (Got the first few bets wrong, lost the free money, game over).
Remember, it doesn't cost anything and you could win a packet. Who could argue with that?
Re: Betfair.com, win without risking your own money
You could just post your email, although some people aren't keen on that cos they fear web bots that scour forums for emails so they can spam them. Up to you, you can make some posts or risk posting your email addy.
Cheers though, whichever you choose, the response to this has been much better than I ever expected

Why wouldn't everyone just use Mansion. Better rates and without a doubt the best exchange on the net today.
Signing up thru u gives you a affiliate deal were as you make residual income on all the players losses. Not a very good deal in my opinion. Making money off of people that you send to the third best exchange on the market. Far behind Mansion and Matchbook.

This is part of the betfair refer a friend program IWIN is correct that you will earn from everyones losses as well as get £20 for every person that signs up.
Nothing wrong with that but you should at least let everyone know your motivation

Yes and no. Yes I make commission, but it's not on losses. If you have a look at betfair, it's a system that matches one person's bets against another, never against betfair themselves. They make their money by charging 2-5% of WINS. They pay me some of the commission they make, they only make commission when you win, therefore I want you all to win. In return for the commission you get my background in statistical analysis and none of it costs you a penny.
So there's my motivation; giving away my time for free so you can win, and I get a tiny percentage of the wins, and nothing on any losses.

Mansion and Matchbook are indeed excellent, but don't offer a free bet. If you're a gambler wanting great odds, then any of the 3 would be a good choice. But if you want the chance of making money without risking any of your own, then there's only one option on the exchanges at the moment as far as I'm aware.
If this is incorrect then let me know and I'll add the info to the first post; if I become aware of any changes to promos from other exchanges that make them worthwhile, that will be added too.
