Default Firefox or Opera?

I'm unsure about the safety of these browsers. Both are cool, but now they become more and more populars in hackers' attacs.
Opera is less popular than Firefox, but in Russia Firefox is more popular. I think there are much more attacs from Russian hackers, so if I choose Opera - hackers are ready to hack it?

May be somebody can advice another, less popular browser?
Thanks.

Opera has a much smaller market share than Firefox. so is likely to be less exploited Either is a big improvement on IE. If you want obscure use Konqueror on Linux..........

I'd advice Opera. And always download a new version of it. the newest is 9.10 beta.

Pluggy: Any browser in Linux is safe, the system itself is protected.

Right because there are no viruses for linux right? a linux system can get owned just as badly as a windows system, there are just less people in the world that can do it.

Also my friend uses Opera and it is cool, the one knock i have against it is that there are quite a few sites out there that wont display correctly when you use Opera and that can be rather annoying. I use both IE7 and FireFox, IE7 is as secure as FF the only thing that FF has on it right now is the fact that there are more browser plugins available. Its funny how people are still speaking in terms of IE being unsafe due to ActiveX exploits and they seem to not realize that IE7 was released months ago which made IE as safe or safer than FF, and ripped off all the cool ideas that FF originally came up with to boot

And at around the same time FF released version two which moved the security aspect back in favour of FF. There are currently more exploits for IE7 than there are for FF2, as can ve verified here :

http://secunia.com/product/12366/ IE7 - 3 Exploits 'Moderately Critical'

http://secunia.com/product/12434/ FF2 - 1 Exploit 'Less Critical'

http://secunia.com/product/11/ IE6 - 106 Exploits 'Moderately Critical'

http://secunia.com/product/4227/ FF1 38 Exploits 'Less Critical'

http://secunia.com/product/10615/ Opera 9 - Clean bill of health

So according to Secunia, at least, you're better off with 'old' Firefox than 'new' Internet Explorer.

I stand corrected. I havent fired up FF since i updated to IE7. My whole point is that IE7 is NO WHERE CLOSE to unsafe like IE6 was.

As has been mentioned before, You'll have less issues with web pages not rendering properly with FF than with Opera despite the Web Standards acid2 test working on Opera and not on Firefox (or IE for that matter):

http://www.webstandards.org/files/acid2/test.html Its only the Minor browsers that work with it. Opera, Safari 2(Mac) and Konqueror (Linux). Microsoft and Mozilla have paid lip service to the effort.
