Wife trying to leave with my $$$
Help please! My wife of not-too-many years is seeking a divorce and is trying to walk away with most of my money as "alimony". I've been looking at off-shore options to save me from this gold digger, but does anyone know of a better solution?? It's only about $100k, but it all I've got. I need a way to move my money out so the divorce attorneys can't trace or find.

Don't do it. As frustrating as it is to have to give up cash while going through a divorce, you will only invite years of expensive litigation by trying to hide money from your wife (if you don't end up going to prison over it).
Your best defense in protecting "your" assets is the counsel of a good family law attorney. Your wife cannot extract any more money from you than the community property laws of your state say that she is entitled to. Trying to operate outside of existing law about what is equitable for you both is a recipe for disaster.

Gotta agree on that one. MANY reasons, some 'personal experience' involved. Bottom line? It's just not worth it!
Just my opinion,

Re: Wife trying to leave with my $$$
There is nothing illegal about protecting your assets.
If you move the money offshore your wife's attorney would have to get a court order in the country of your offshore bank -- say for example you get a corporate account in Cyprus, the lawyer would have to retain local counsel in Cyprus to bring legal action against you/corporation -- this would be rather expensive and since there is only $100,000 I am not sure an attorney would bother to do so. Sure, they'll get a judgment against you for probably half as she would be entitled but chances are she never see a penny of it.

Re: Wife trying to leave with my $$$
Thanks for the advice guys.. I know you mean well, but I gotta stash my cash somewhere and deal with the consequences later. Help point me in the direction where I would have the best chance. An "investor" suggested converting to e-currency? I have no experience with e-currency. Any advice on that?

Offshore:
With a corporate account in Cyprus, would the attorney here even know the offshore account belongs to me?

If you take this action your money will be safe but you could quite possibly spend time in jail if the scheme were uncovered.

Re: Wife trying to leave with my $$$
Is your wife aware of this money currently?
Is it cash in an account?
I just read up on the concept of Alimony since it's not one I'm familiar with and it seems bizarre... I assumed it was the american equivalent of child support but it's just an ex wife tax? Apparently it stems from a time when men were expected to support their wives forever when a divorce was more difficult to obtain.
