During the fabulous junk bond 80's gold peaked around $800 USD, which is more or less where it is trading now. If you adjust that with inflation and the current value of the USD gold has fallen by close to 100%.
Yeah, that's something "gold forever" bugs don't like to talk about. When they finally got their fever pitch actual one day stock market crash in 1987?

Depending how long you plan to invest. Technically all stocks are way down, many people are saying now is the time to buy and hold onto them for like 5 years and hope the Obama train and help the ecomonmy
GE stock is cheap you can buy it for like 13-14 bucks and get 9% dividends. And write call options as well and it ends up being like 18% dividends when you add the call premiums.

Sorry but I think GE is a better bet. and at 13.96 they pay 8.88% dividend and you own a true blue chip american company with real prospects.
