Bookmarking is a great way to build backlinks and drive insane amounts of traffic to your site. But it doesn't stop with just websites. The majority of people forget to bookmark their articles and videos.
Bookmarking sites is part of the new strategy to get traffic to your online property using the new Web 2.0 sites. Bookmarking sites such as Digg and Stumble upon are sites which allow users to bookmark all their favorite sites in one place and allow the users to share these sites with the rest of the world. These sites can generate traffic because they have a very large community. But the most important aspect of bookmarking sites is the good quality one way backlink you receive. Backlinks are very important to have if you want to rank high in the search engines for certain keywords.
Another great advantage of Bookmarking sites is that they index and categorize content faster than the search engines, which can generate traffic almost instantly. So you're probably scratching your head and wondering which Bookmarking sites to use. From my own experience and the results from other webmasters, the following sites should be used:
Digg- This site allows users to submit stories they like on the internet. When the community likes the story they dig it. The more digs a story gets, the higher the story ranks giving it more exposure to the community.
Technorati- This site monitors all blogs, their content, comments and number of links.
Stumble upon- Similar to digg, you give sites the thumbs up or thumbs down depending on the content. The greater the stumbles, the more exposure your site receives.
Del.icio.us- high authority bookmarking site with a large community.
Social bookmarking is a great strategy to increase website traffic. But what would happen if you had a community of your own stumbling, digging and bookmarking all your sites and posts. Could your server handle this kind of traffic? I know my AdSense account could.
Many people pay $0.10, $0.25 or even over $1.00 per click using pay-per-click. If you want 100 people on your site and your cost is $0.25 per click that's $25 flat. If you wanted 100 people per day for an entire month, that would be $750 per month.
Do you have that kind of money or budget? If you're doing that well, then I'm happy for you.
But keep this in mind too. We don't spend more than $100 per month on advertising but we pull down over $10K in profit. That means we get a lot of traffic for free. That's what the gurus do and we've just "stolen" their technique.
