Treasury Shares
These are shares of stock that are purchased up by the company that initially issued them. They do not count towards "shares outstanding", and are pretty much dead shares until the company decides to resell them again (if they decide to follow that path). This is done for many different reasons, and can be considered positive or negative when a company buys back shares. For example, a company might now like their P/E ratio, so they will buy back shares which would increase the earnings per outstanding shares. This will then decrease the P/E ration and make the stock look more appealing.
