Default New to BitCoin and to this forum

Hi guys I'm new to this forum and wondering I can learn more about Bitcoin. Where's a good place to start? Some good readings maybe? Is it really worth it to invest a lot of money in it?

Welcome Harry,

Bitcoin was designed to be money. Still there is a game of speculation going on. So, it's not really an investment, more of a game to determine the market value of bitcoin.

Bitcoin is valuable only because of it's inherent utility, you can use it to communicate value at long distance. Because it's non-reversible, you don't have to know or trust the spender. Because there is no central authority, it's impossible for thieves to attack it directly. There is no way to shut it down. This has been a defect of other digital currency systems - having a central issuer means criminals have a point of attack, ie e-gold.com

To buy up bitcoin to hold in hope of appreciation is risky. Who knows what will happen to the price? Still, you might score this late into it.

One thing you need to know about this board. It's not allowed to offer to trade here. There are other internet forum snake pits where that is allowed. It's a lot of noise over content.

TalkGold is for discussion of technique and strategy. Only those exchangers who advertise are allowed to talk of trade. That rule stifles 95% of the scams and allows us enough quiet to discuss online payment systems.

Shane

Check out the new "Electrum" client.

Once you have it installed, post a bitcoin address to the free bitpenny thread and I'll give you one!
