I have a serious question. A couple of people have offered to gift me into programs they are in. I had said I would take them up on it. I think they are good programs. But, now I am wondering....is every program out there a ponzi? If so, I'll decline being gifted in because I just think it is wrong getting paid from other peoples money, because sooner or later the program will dry up, and there will be people who lose out completely.

Hi NL...it is pretty easy to tell if it is a ponzi, based on simple rules for investing. Once you become familiar with how things (including types of markets) work, you can spot them a mile away.
Is everything HYIP a ponzi? Pretty much. With higher "yield" comes higher risk. How much risk are you willing to exercise? Is what you are spending money you are willing and able to lose without complaint? Like to gamble? Then test the waters. Otherwise, look for non-HYIP investments. They are there...even here on TG.
"Gifting programs," BTW, are a whole different beast. They are glorified chain letters, and completely illegal. There is a $250 one going around...you send $250 to someone you don't know and add your name to the list...RIGHT.

Glad to see you are a mod again, my friend! TG isn't the same without you!

This internet thing makes it so easy to participate in.
There is if you have any ethics...which it appears that NewLeaf does.
If there is nothing wrong, why was Charles Ponzi arrested, why is it illegal, and the term even exist? The word doesn't mean "joy & happiness" afterall.
NL, Hope this helps! Might be something for a different thread, however.
I think 99,9% of hyips are real Ponzi schemes.
So what? The whole world is based on the same rules and often running by the same means.
I think it is stupid not to use any possibility to multiply your finances.
This concern is pretty risky and often people suffer. But I am sure that this forum would be empty if no one there ever get any prises or profit from Ponzi schemes.
I agree with MotherLode, there are some genuine High Yield Investment Programs.
Some are online and some are offline.
High yield investments cover many many areas including Forex trading. If you have a look at www.collective2.com and fxmaster.net you can see that some people are achieving high returns on their investments and it's there for you to watch.
The reason there are so many shady/scam online hyips is because it's very easy to set them up
It's also because we're human and cling onto hope whenever a big carrot is dangled infront of our faces.
There are a number of high yield investments that have been paying for a number of years. The trick is to have a plan and stick to it. Temptation is everywhere online, can you resist it?
I'm not yet 2 months old in the hyip arena, but here's my newbie take on this:
There are two kinds of HYIPs - the obvious ponzies and those that fall in a gray area. Obvious-ponzi spotting is easy to learn and usually profitable if you swoop down fast enough. But it's usually the ones in the gray area that cause the maximum financial and psychological damage (Invex, ExpInvest, Dornstetten, iDann...) that entice people to trust them by offering low% returns, build a solid payout history and just when big investors start feeling compfortable putting in 1000's of $$$s in they bail out. It's my humble opinion that Fastmarket, Privateopps will fall in that category too, sooner or later.
Should you "invest" in Ponzis? Yes, if you know how to protect yourself. I believe that the others who will eventually lose their money know only too well what the risks are. That's why they are still surviving in Ponziland, and they've made their profits at others' expense too. That doesn't make it right, but you can be sure they know the rules as well as you do, so you're not exactly stealing from them. Do you ever feel guilty about winning in the stock market? Do you care that the last time you made a hefty profit, some small investor out there could have lost his shirt? I say that if he didn't know the risks beforehand, he had no business trading in the first place. You won because you strategized better, stuck to your trading rules or plain got lucky. Isn't it the same with HYIP's? Strategize, do your risk management, stick to the rules and you will win more often than you lose.
Ponzis may be illegal in most countries but the fact is that most government run pension plans and those run by businesses too are all ponzis. You'll find a ton of info on this in Google search. It's a ticking time bomb. What do you do then - refuse your pension because it's morally and ethically wrong?
That said, I'm going to sound like an awful hypocrite now - actually, I never invest in the obvious ponzis. I'm with 12DP and eProfitTeam's eProfitSurf because I really believe they are not ponzis. I'm with DadnDaves and 50cent (not any more though) because I believe that even if they are ponzis, they're honest ones and investors won't lose much of their money in the end. I'm with Its No Miracle, Cash Conga and Internet Profit Team because they don't make money for some at the expense of others.
But who am I to judge what's moral and ethical if someone wants to put their money in a ponzi? I'd say, go ahead, but protect yourself and know the rules. You're not more wrong than 99% of the people on this planet. Do it right and you'll be just fine.
