About certificate errors
A certificate is an electronic document that can help identify a website's owner and can help you make decisions about trusting the site with personal or financial information. Certificates are issued by certification authorities whose responsibility it is to confirm the identity of the website owner or organization.

Why do certificate errors occur?

Certificate errors occur when there is a problem with a certificate. These errors can help warn you about suspicious or fraudulently used certificates.

How do I know if there is a certificate error?

The Security Status bar will turn red. In some cases, a blocking page will appear or additional information will pop up.

I'm getting errors on websites I always visit. What should I do?

If you are getting certificate errors at a website you visit often, it's possible the website is not configured correctly. Try retyping the address you are using. For example, if you are typing the address as https://microsoft.com, try changing it to https://www.microsoft.com.

It is possible that the website has not updated their certificate or configuration for Internet Explorer. Starting with Internet Explorer 7, the security certificate industry made changes to provide better assurances of a website's identity, which gives you more information to make a trust decision.

Is it ever safe to ignore a certificate warning and continue to a website?

No. The website's certificate provides both identification and encryption for a secure connection with the website. If the certificate has an error, it is possible that the secure connection has been compromised, and you cannot be certain that you are connected to the website you intend to. If you know and trust the website, it might be safe for you to bypass the error and continue to the site, but it is not recommended because of the uncertainty of the connection and the website's identity.

What happens when I continue to a website that has a certificate warning?

If you continue to a website that has a certificate warning, Internet Explorer will store the certificate that has the error and not show the error again for that page or any of its subpages. If you continue to a website that has a certificate error, Internet Explorer will accept the certificate, regardless of whether the identity or encryption is correct for the website.

Error message What it means
This website***8217;s security certificate has been revoked Do not trust this website. This error message often indicates that the security certificate was obtained or used fraudulently by the website. The encryption key that is specified in the certificate might have been compromised or the user listed in a certificate does not have authority to use it (for example, the company was sold). The certification authority that issued the certificate keeps a list of revoked certificates that is checked by Internet Explorer.
This website***8217;s address does not match the address in the security certificate The web address or domain name of the website has been changed since the certificate was issued. This error can also occur if a company owns several websites and uses a certificate that was issued for one web address for another site (for example, for a different department or division). This error should only be ignored if you are confident that the site really is related to the website on the certificate.
This website***8217;s security certificate is out of date This error occurs when the current date is either before or after the time period during which the certificate is valid. Websites must renew their certificates with a certification authority to stay current. This error might indicate that there are problems with the current identity of the website, but it might be caused simply because the webmaster forgot to update the certificate.
This website***8217;s security certificate is not from a trusted source This error occurs when the certificate has been issued by a certification authority that is not recognized by Internet Explorer. If you know and trust the website, you can add the certificate to the list of certificates that Internet Explorer recognizes. If you do not know the website, this error might indicate an untrustworthy website.
Internet Explorer has found a problem with this website***8217;s security certificate This error occurs when Internet Explorer finds a problem with a security certificate that does not fit any other error conditions. The error can potentially occur because a certificate has been corrupted, tampered with, is written in an unknown format, or is unreadable. You should not trust the identity of the site if the certificate has this error.

Reloaypaycard is a SCAM! I was foolish enough to loose US$315 to them. I sent it by Western Union as per their instructions and informed them of all the details, but they never responded. Sent them several emails, but no response. No one answers their phone in the UK or Spain, and their USA number is for someone totally unrelated to them. Really feel stupid, as I lost about the same amount last year to Money-around-the-world. That is a complete scam also. I can send more details if you wish.
