I am jumping directly to the conclusion that LR disabled their referral system due to a huge amount of exploits ( I know about the bans for creating several "fake" accounts, but it can all be circumvented - just use your brain ). They didnt say a word about it, and they will probably never admit that. Nor will we see anything like a "new referral system in place". I guarantee you that.

Hint: This problem I had with the referral system not working has been present since the summer of 2009. At least that was the first time I and my friend tried it out. I sent an email to the LR support and got the reply - the techs are doing some updates to the RS. Weird enough, about 2 weeks ago, we tried it once again. Then, I contacted the LR support via the chat line and the person on the other side advised me that "the referral account should also be loaded with at least 10 USD, and make a transaction, in order for the referral bonus to be credited to both accounts". That sounded reasonable and realistic. However I and my friend forgot about the issue for like 2 weeks, and once we tested it one more time a few days ago ( the topic pertains our latest attempt ), we ended up with the reply that the RS has been disabled. And in advance to any questions if I and my friend have used one and the same IP addresses to create the trial accounts all three times - no, of course not.

So where exactly was I wrong? All I said was that LR had auto RS which led it into big troubles bcoz of exploits and stuff. And maybe they are really working on a new RS. Either way the only solution is to get rid of it at all or check each transaction manually which will take time but will save LR some money.
