Default The Cave Diver/Rough Draft

This is a little short story which I would expand it to a full book after I finish writing my other stories. Warning, this is a very scarey story if you are faint at heart.

Mike Henderson was an experience scuba diver, and was an experience on diving on ship wrecks and exploring under water caves. He was also a peramedic for Kansas City, and was a certified dive rescuer like his friends with him who were police officers, firefighters, or just a certified rescuer.

One hot summer afternoon in July, Mike and his 5 diving buddies went to Missouri to dive in one of the underwater caves in the cave systems there. They all were experience cavedivers as well.

Mike drove the van with all of friends piled in, and the diving gear were put in the back with the tanks tied down for them not to roll around all over the place so that the tanks will not explosed. Mike drove for a few hours where the men saw trees, rivers, farm lands, rocks, hills and mountains with so much colorful sites and views until they got to the caves in the mountains where the water have drain into them from the nearby river and the lake. One of the cave entrence they were going into the was located on a slow moving river tribitary that drained into the lake.

Mike pulled into the parking lot of the park near the river. He then put up a special tag to hang on his mirror to show that they have a permit from the state to dive the caves there, and have one on them as well.

Mike and his friends climbed out of the van and stretched before they went back to the van to get their dive equipment. They opened the back of the van, and started carrying all the gear down by the water's edge. They carried bags, tanks, and rebreathers down. They also grabbed some sandwiches and sodas that they ate and drunk before continuing.

Mike and his friends ate their lunch, and disposed of their trash before they dive. They stand their watching the river flow, pointed where the cave is located, and talked about plans for the dive. They then started to put their gear together. Even though it was summer time, they have to use drysuits since the water in the caves would be very cold. They then attached the rebreathers to the airtanks. The rebreathers were used because using regular tanks would have air escaped to hit the ceiling which could cause problems like let mud come done and blind the divers, cause rocks to come lose, and all other possibilities that could caused them harm. With rebreathers, they would not have to worry about the air bubbles. Special fins also were brought so that they do not stir up the sediments from the floor of the caves to blind them. The divers have to swim with their feet going sideways instead of up and down.

Once all the equipment were put together and tested, the divers started putting on their drysuits, then the hoods, the weightbelts, the tanks and rebreathers combined and the gloves. Mike wore a black drysuit. His friend Jack wore a blue, yellow and white Mobby's drysuit. His friend Steve wore a red and black Viking drysuit. Tom wore a blue drysuit. Andy wore a purple and black drysuit. And Ben wore a yellow and black one.

All six of friends walked down together to the water's edge and entered. Once they got up to their waist, they pulled down their dive masks and slipped their fins on. Once their fins and masks were donned, they put the mouth pieces, from a hose that went back to the rebreathers, into their mouths. The hoses ran from both sides of the mouth pieces that ran back both sides of the divers head to the back that connects to the rebreater. The rebreater sent fresh air from the square rebreather on the back through the hose on the right side to the mouth for the diver to take air in, and the exhaled air goes out of the left side through the hose back to the rebreather where the bad air be clensed and be reused again which means that the air can be used for about 8 hours. Their was a special cleanser that cleans the air to be reused again.

The divers descended down in the water for about 50 feet, and swam to the entrence to the cave. Mike was elected to be the last diver in line because of his experience as a rescue diver for the fire department in case of problems. The others were less experience as a couple of them are still being trained as a rescue diver. Two of Mike's friends were actually firefighters, another one was just a friend from high school and the other two were police officers. Mike was the only one who was a EMT as well besides as a firefighter.

Mike's friend Steve, who was a police officer, lead the way inside. Steve reeled out a string of line as a highway into the cave where the string was tied on the outside of the cave's mouth by wrapping around outcropping of rocks along the way throw the cave. The string was also tied around little hooks at certain points in the cave so that the line would be straight and tight, and not float towards the top. The divers can not yank on the strings because they could break them, and they could be lost. The divers turned their lights on their helmets which is used to protect their heads from hitting their heads on rocks. They also have dive lights in one of their hands for more lighting. The dive lights have a deal where you can put around your wrist in case you lose the dive lights. The dive lights looked like the big flashlights you used on land, but these were built for underwater.

The divers went deeper and deeper into the cave. The water tempature also got colder and colder as they went deeper into the cave. The caves went down and curved about. Steve kept reeling out the string on the first roll untill he ran out. He got another one out and tied that on to the hook, and started reeling out the next line of string to continued down the cave maze. An hour and a half went by when they came to a cavern like area, and they went across to an opening on the other side, but the tunnel was a little bigger. The cavern itself was huge, and the ceiling was limitless, and the bottom seemed to be endless as well. The divers were not interested to explore the upper parts and the lower parts of the cavern.

The divers entered the the tunnel mouth and continued down it and came across a stoppage. The stoppage was actually a cave at an intersection where the tunnel ends to another smaller tunnel which was supposed to go both direction and the main tunnel continued on. But, the left side seems to have been blocked up by a slide or something and the tunnel ahead was blocked as well. Steve decided that they would go to the right tunnel, but Mike hung back a bit and look at the stoppage for a bit. He could not helped but have a bad feeling that they were being watched, but he does not know where it was or from what was watching them.

He turned around and followed the rest down the right side. Even though he was several feet behind, but caught up to them when the tunnel became a squeeze which would slow them down a bit. Steve entered while roilling out the line. Steve would yank on the string lightly to let them know he was across. After a few minutes, the string yanked, and Tom went next. After a bit, one by one went through until it was Mike's turn.

Mike went through the squeeze, but there was nothing much to slow him down since they could get through. It was agreed when the others see his light, they would start forward again. It was a few minutes that Mike made it to the far end that he saw the lights of his friends up ahead.

Mike was half way out of tight tunnel when he felt something snagged his ankles. He twisted around for him to see what snaggedhim, but he could not see to well even with his lights. So, he went flat on his stomach, and grabbed onto a rock in front of him, and see if he can wiggle his ankles free. That was when he felt that his ankles was snagged alright, but it was like some type of tenticle that snagged both his ankles. He tried harder to pull free, but more tenticles whipped out around his lower legs and continued wrapping around his legs up to his upper legs and waist. Mike continued fighting to pull forward when more tenticles came out and whipped around his waist and upper chests, and then more wrapped around his shoulders and his arms trying to pull him backwards.

Mike looked forward trying to swing his head back and forth so that his lights would be seen by his friends to tell them that he is in trouble and need their help. The problem with that was his friends were already around the next bend going down the tunnel where they would not see him. Mike tried harder to crawl forward using the rocks. His knuckles turned white as he strained to get lose, and all of a sudden, he was yanked backwards down through the squeezed back towards the stoppage. He could not stop himself from going backwards. Only hope for Mike was that his friends would noticed he was missing. The only problem was that he was moving backwards faster than when he went forwards.

Mike noticed that he was back at the intersection with the stoppage, but instead of going back down the larger tunnel to the cavern, he was going down the place where he thought it was blocked by the slide. Mike's hair stood on end when he remembered that he felt something was watching him, and now knew it was actually the stoppage or rock slide that was watching him all along. He turned his head to the right and noticed that he went down the tunnel that was the stoppage, but noticed the sides were glistining with wetness that looked like glue.

Mike continued down the tunnel, but realized it was a maw of some creature's mouth. Then, he felt his legs split apart as both legs slipped into something like a thick heavy pants like softnness until he stopped and that the sticky softness of the creature closed around his legs and waist. Mike tried to get his right arm down his side to get his dive knife and realized that he can not get it now since it is strapped to his leg. Besides that, the wall of the creature's inside also prevented him from even reaching it. Mike looked upwards to the roof of the creature and noticed the ceiling of the wet stickiness that was drooling the sticky stuff on top of him.

Mike looked down again because he felt movement around his hands as he wacthed something slipped around his hands. What he saw was that the creature's sticky softness started to moved onto his fingers like a glove. Mike tried to jerk his hands free which the creature jerked back that sent his hand and fingers straight in front of him. This included his arms that stratched out in front of him as well. With the jerk, the creature's softness of the creature's body got Mike's hands and wrists stuck inside. Mike can not get his hands free because the creature have his hands deep inside. Not just the thinness, but the creature have pushed his hands downwards to a point that a heavy thickness kept them in place.

Mike saw movement in front of him, and hoped it was his friends coming to rescue him, but it was not. It was the creature's maw closing in front of him to shut him inside. Mike made a great efforts to try and pulled himself out which it caused the softness of the creature to moved up his arms like a shirt. Every efforts he made got him entrapped even more. The creature covered his arm halfway between the wrists and the elbows, then the elbows, and halfway from there to the shoulders and finally his shoulders. Mike's hopes vanished as the maw closed completely, and his friends can not see his lights if they did come to find him.

Mike tried one more time to see if he can try and get out, but it never worked. Mike felt the softness of the creature on the back and the top of his head and slipped like a harness underneath his chin to hold his head up. The softness of the creature around his head brought his head upwards a bit where his chest came off the softness of the creature that was underneath him. He did heard the sound of a suction cup undoing itself from around him. Then, Mike felt the soft roof above him closed around his back and sides. Mike's lights was also covered by the creature, but the creature's inside was glowing where he can see what is going on. Then, he saw some glowing fluids came down the creature towards him, and flowed underneath him filling up the areas of Mike's legs, flowing inside of were his arms and hands are, and his chest area.

The area underneath of Mike filled with fluids real quick, and Mike was let loose into the fluids with the sunction cup sounds from his back that let him go. He fell right into the liquids. Mike's legs and arms came free at last, but he saw that the roof and sides of the creatures closed in around him. Mike started to teared up because he would not be able to see his wife and kids ever again. He would never say goodbye at all. While his thoughts were on his family, the creature got to work on him until the pain was too much for him, and Mike past out. Before he passed out, he saw through the glow of the creature's gut, he saw that Tom was also being brought backwards into the creature. The last thing Mike ever knew was his family, wishing Tom could get lose and the burnung sensation he was feeling as the creature rapidly absorbed Mike to become a part of the creature.

NO Spit, NO. Mike has to find his knife, once his arms were freed, and slice his way out of the creature. How else are we suppose to know the story? Who would be left alive to tell the story?

There is some grammar and spelling corrections that need to be made.
Good luck Spit.

I am pattern my books after Steve Alten and them. Including Stephen King. Have you read some of Stephen King's short stories? Have you watched the Creep Show movies based on Stephen King's short stories? In the end of the short stories, the main character dies.

Anyways, Mike may not be the main character of my book, but just a small character like in Steve Alten's books. I will expand this into a bigger in a point of view of different charcters, different places, interactions with other characters and so forth.
