No!
Dont tell them that you were dealing with currency exchange.
Just tell them that the scammer contacted you in an Instant messenger and proposed to sell a product. You trusted him and made payment but he did not deliver the product to you.
If paypal asks for the chatlogs tell them that your IM does not archive the conversations. Thats it.

What a stupid comment to put in a public forum. Boards like this arethe first place any investigator, lawyer, Internet historian or researcher will look if he or she wants evidence to prosecute those who have aided and abbetted the scammers and shills.
My suggestion is that "mymailaff" should tell PayPal the truth, the whole truth and nothing but but the truth. These attempts to lie and collaborate with con artists is not doing TalkGold any favours. He has lost his money so why advise him to loose his reputation as a credible witness for the prosecution.

I used to think that way, always tell the truth but unfortunately with PayPal that isn't going to get you a refund unless your specific complaint falls within their limited criteria.
I ordered some goods from a UK business and paid with PayPal. One of the items arrived broken (really smashed, not slightly damaged). I contacted the company and they didn't acknowlege my email or reply to my support request. They could have claimed for the damage from Royal Mail but chose to ignore the problem. I requested a partial refund via PayPal for the broken item but the refund was denied. What's ironic is that if I'd have lied and said I hadn't received the parcel then I would have been refunded for the whole lot.

That is sad. "We Btitish" like to believe that our institutions can be trusted. A fallacy? Of course but there is one enemy that I blame for everything that goes wrong online and that is "the rate of change."
