I have a XP setup that I paid for, but I did so begrudgingly. In addition to that, I also run a sane OS on my system that makes sense. who knows nada about computers ) prefers. She doesn't play in-depth games. I play the MMO's that I do play, through the Cedega interface through SUSE. I am getting ready to run an ubuntu setup as well.

Same as, I'll be switching to OS X as the main desktop OS early next year tho.

Yep Macs crash a lot, mines done it twice in 2 and half years heavy use.
I can't vouch for the pre OS X operating systems which the illustrated Mac (circa 2001) would have had installed by default.
