4. Norton - Antivirus
5. Norton - Antivirus for Mac
6. McAfee - ViruScan
7. Trend Micro - PC-cillin Internet Security
8. Alwil - Avast! Antivirus
9. F-Secure - Anti-Virus
10. Panda Software - Titanium AV
11. CA/eTrust - EZ Antivirus
12. PC Tools - AntiVirus


For excellent detection at a low price:
1. BitDefender - $30 (download only)
2. Zone Labs - $30

Both scored excellent in our detection tests, including recognition of viruses they had never seen. Both let you schedule scans. BitDefender scans instant messages. Zone Labs has a full-featured firewall and scans within Zip files.


For both detection and ease of use:
3. Kaspersky Labs - $50

Kaspersky was very good at overall detection and its feature and ease of use both rated excellent. It scans within Zip files by default. It was excellent at recognizing newly discovered viruses, but only fair at our toughest test-recognizing those it had never seen before.


For good protection that's free:
8. Alwil (download)

With good detection, ease of use, and scanning sped, and very good features, this free program is useful for protecting multiple computers on a tight budget.

I'm surprised that Outpost Firewall, Window Defender, and SpyBot S&D are not on the list.

You have to understand that ComputerReports Magazine takes all aspects of the virus scanner into effect and not just virus detection % so if you're looking for a virus scanner that actually detects the larger amount of viruses in the internet I hope you would google your information or check my thread about the top 15 detection rate virus scanners. But good list nonetheless, I don't believe Norton can be in there though, only good Norton scanner is the Corporate Edition.

Spybot S&D is not a virus scanner. It's looking for Spyware. You should be running it along with anti-virus protection.
