Do not think it really works. Some dangerous Trojans can harm.

Please expand your statement. What trojans? Do you have experience of malware affecting computers running MSE?

Recently I had a virus which blocks windows and requests money for unblocking. Computer was under Avira and firewall. I used Kaspersky Internet Security to remove this virus. Now I use it in trial mode. Works perfect.

MSE - it's firewall or separate antivirus? If separate, I mistaken, sorry. Then I will try it.

Microsoft Security Essentials is real time protection against viruses, malware and spyware.
It is lightweight and will run with Windows XP, Vista and 7 It can only be downloaded if you have a genuine copy of Windows.
Youy also need a software firewall as MSE does not include one.

Microsoft Security Essentials is very good, but you need an original Windows license to use it. Also, I recomend Avast, it's free and powerfull.
You may also complement your protection with some antimalware/spyware. I think the best is Malwarebytes.

Original Windows license is not a problem. But can I use MSE and other antivirus at the same time?

No point really. MSE is good on its own. I also use Outpost firewall (paid for) but the free Windows one is adequate if you have a hardware firewall.
I also scan with Malwarebytes once a week. It has come back clean ever since I installed MSE.
