I am sorry to hear this.
I understand that it does take some time to maintain for mods / admin, especially TickTack and geoff01. As an active TG member, I have tried to help as I could with my limited resources. I always had to refer things to TickTack or Geoff01.

Somehow MMG hides their exchange folder to all but approved members. This may help protect against scammers, as observers would not know what people were posting about. It could make it harder to pretend they are someone else, as they would have less info. They could not target their instant messenger approach to a recent post someone made.

There are many good trades made here. There are many quick trades made here that could not be done timely with a regular exchanger. There are certain e-currencies that can not be exchanged through a regular exchanger.

Either way, you will still need to be proactive about your other folders, as there have been many trades posted other places.

Hi Brian,

Why don't you make the "Exchange" folder as a "paid" folder. It's like that in MMG forum. For example, we need to subscribe (for say $10/month or more) to access the folder & post in it. That way it will keep the cheap scammers out & it will also become a revenue source for TG.

Also, make it a STRICT rule so that ALL exchanges are done at member's OWN risk...and NOBODY should contact TG admin if they ever get scammed.

Hoping that Exchange folder will prevail.

We do feel for the honest people in this folder, however there seems to be more dishonest scammers then honest traders. We thought about charging a fee, but then it just causes more problems. If we accidently ban someone for scamming when they were not then what, do we have to give them the $10 back? Thats just more reason for them to call me and Talkgold a scam.

Its just an unneeded headache, a safety concern and a mess. If we say that they are not to contact the admins if scammed, then what? We just allow the scammers to run free and scam dozens of people? Not a good thing.

Perhaps honest people who want to have exchange as a business could start their own private site and do exchanges there..., or if you are in touch with other members, you could do it through IM/e-mail on your own risk. It would have nothing to do with talkgold, and if you want you can even exchange your IDs. Personally, I would not exchange with people I know nothing about anyway

Just a sensible question, then - why wait for few weeks? Isn't it like giving scammers their 'last chance' to abuse this folder? May be it is best to close down with immediate effect?

I would say it is a courtesy extended to the good members such as yourself :-)

It is likely to be a couple of weeks rather than a few weeks. This is to allow trades in progress to be completed and to enable honest exchangers like yourself to arrange alternative means of communication with people who you wish to trade with in future (those who have successfully traded with you in the past for example) and to allow members who would like to trade with you in future to send you their details.

If you want to exchange using the PM system, some sort of messenger or via your website, that is okay. It will then become a personal transaction between two members rather than it involving the forum.

I think Brian was fair to allow everyone some time. We will of course keep our eyes open for post count builders and for anyone who appears to be making a last ditch attempt to scam before the folder closes.

Perhaps best idea will be to make a coalition of reliable exchanger and keep new exchangers in trial mode before they can potencialy scam someone.

It's really bad.
Even I have been scammed for $900 here,
but I don't feel what you say.
I like this forum and spend much time in exchange folder.
I have do my best and found at least 20 scammers here,
And will continue detect them, ticktack knows more about this.

If you increase required post counts from 50 to 250
And also member should be at least one year in TG before he/she
even can access the folder , would wipe out many scammers.
Paid subscription + Mobile SMS Verification would help alot.

Brian, there are still many legit exchangers/traders here.
Scammers are every where. Not only here.
We must stop them. I will do my best to help you.
I'm really aggressive to these kind of nasty people.

You can't....Scammers will always find a way....

Just last night I had an offer made to me on YM from a member banned here 3 days ago...

He set up an exchange site and was looking for a member with high TG post count and long term member(like me) to post his link mainly in the exchange folder.
He offered 2% of the profit to me + bonus if I did a good job spamming his link in TG exchange section....

That's the sort of crap you up against here with the exchange folder.

I think the best option is to no longer let new people register for the money exchange folder allowing everyone who had a good reputation to stay and permantly stopping scammers.

Let me know what you think of this as I realy do not want money exchange to close.
