I am earning through adsense on my blogs. There is a cool site called hubpages that you can write about anything and get major traffic. If you have something unique that you can write about, it is usually indexed within 10-20 minutes after publishing.

You can also use your ebay and amazon affiliate settings on your blog.

I've done fairly well with affiliate marketing. What's great about making money online is that the startup investment is nil in comparison to brick and mortar businesses. This gives you the freedom to try many things with just a time investment.

But any affiliate has to be marketed and so some money and time of course, has to be invested. Servers will not allow bulk mailing nowdays (well most respectable ones won't), you can't (or shouldn't ) harvest emails from websites so you have to buy opt-in lists and if you collect it yourself it will take time.

Having said all that, it is possible, but it is not "get rich quick" and it needs serious planning and work.

What about people like me who really want to dabble in this, but don't have the time for it, and still wouldn't mind helping with the "startup costs" with another individual?
