I target only recession proof businesses now, and most of my commission checks on affiliate programs has dropped dramtically due to economy. One thing I learned long ago in any business is to diversify. I learned that in last recession, and it has gotten me through all the economic hiccups ever since.

This is obviously the worst economic downturn I have seen in my business life, and it is about to get far worse, if not a depression. Given the gov. only just announced we are in a recession, I suspect they won't announce we are in a depression until Citi collapses, and the gov. already bailed it out, then we are in trouble.

It has never been more important in any business to control overhead and expenses, and affiliate marketing is what works best in my experience, as long as you choose affiliates wisely. I track them all, and anything you can eliminate from your budget is a good way to evaluate how others will respond to specific affiliate programs. With PayPerClick way off due to recession, I started to remove these from me sites and am seeing much higher affiliate incomes, so don't waste your money on Adwords, most seasoned internet searchers will only click on natural search results, usually top ten at most, and rarely paid for ads which are always the less than credible variety.

Simply put, times are a changin, and in the world of the internet, you have to change with it, what worked yesterday does not mean it will work today, and certainly, not tomorrow, it is a fast moving target. Look back over the last few years of internet marketing and what you will find is a ton of ebooks from the so called guru's, but do any of them really make you more money, no, they make the guru's more money. lol

Success to all,
Correct:

In my many years I have seen the Internet roaring, and it has slown down quite a bit.
My income has slown down some, and so has my buddies, but we are still making it okay.
The key here is that so many people are tired of working for the man that they want so bad to earn money on line.

It really isn't that hard once you know how to cash in, it's getting there that's the bear.

In my affiliate program I have the ability to track everything just like you, and the ones that have made a few sales arn't going anyplace, it's the new ones that just come in that are having to shell out a few bucks that I concentrate on.
Once two sales are made, then they are in pure profit, and even if it's only a couple bucks, thats more than most people make in any on line business.

Most people join programs and never make a dime so they give up.

Even if I lose mostly everyone I have as an affiliate, I will not close my program.
While I also diversify, I have more than enough coming in to cover the cost of running my program, so it will stay. I really want to have a good program that everyone has the same chance of earning an income, not just a select few that can promote.

Regards,

Hello everybody, I'm very new to this forum so I just want to say good luck to everybody.

I've been doing affiliate marketing for about a year and a half, off and on. (the day job can get in the way sometimes), It's been tough but I've managed to make several thousand dollars so far and it's getting easier.

I've learned to quit looking for short cuts and trying every new thing that comes along.

I have learned that success comes with finding a few things that work for me, working hard at them and keep fine-tuning and learning.

Interesting,

Yes, focusing on the businesses that work best is a good strategy, but you have to keep your eyes open for new products and services and not simply stay with the typical or usual online opportunities.

As recession worsens, where typical or usual online businesses are suffering, others are starting to emerge to take the place of the ones not pulling like they once did. I have researched them all for years, and only by identifying the long term recession proof business opportunities will you survive, never mind thrive.

As example, in a recession, what do you start to cut back on in your daily lives? This is a good rule of thumb to use when deciding on a home or online business. Markets are shifting quickly and many industries are getting hit hard, so you want to steer clear of these, so it takes a lot more thought to choose the right business in a recession than it does in good economic times.

Even Google just announced they were closing offices and laying off workers, and this says it all, we are in a deep recession, and it is going to be a long one, if not a depression, so what businesses will survive and thrive during these hard economic times? Perhaps a good extention of this thread would be to list examples of recession proof businesses to help more people avoid failure.

Energy conservation industry is booming as businesses are all trying to trim expenses as they are alos under pressure trying to survive. With housing collapse, banking collapse, Frannie/Freddie bailout, stock market collapse, bankruptcies and foreclosures at record highs, look into alternative financing options and home construction options since so many in the real estate and mortgage business are under water financially speaking. When times get tough, more people are looking for part time income or second jobs, so while more will be looking for online income or part time home businesses, this would be a good time to get started with a online business, but choose wisely is my best advice. Look for a business which solves a financial problem for businesses or saves money for consumers is the best bet.

Success to all,

I posted the other day about program updates, where I now pay out a huge $30.00 per referral sale on level one, and $5.00 on level two.

I also just added this new page:

Virtual Smart Agent will help you pull in loads of money, now you can see how it works.

I have a lot of ads and pages... I will say this much: Squidoo and Hubpages have been effective in getting the word out. Pages on my own domain have not done as well because I haven't quite got the hang of Google Adwords... yet.

This is the beutiful thing of running an affiliate program.

While I spend my share of time promoting my pages, I have others doing it as well, and I pay them on their efforts.

I also work my program just like my affiliates.

When people say they are making money, I've always wondered by doing what exactly. It's ok if your website isn't done and if you could list all the URLs so all newbies can try to figure it out on their own from there on.

Help appreciated.
