I tried teaching English to Japanese people using Skype for a while. It paid rather well, but speaking to a Japanese person with limited English ability online becomes very mind numbing. I gave it away before they had to take me away in a padded van. Internet marketing has been good to me though. Learning the ropes was hard, as there is a lot of info out there but most of it is crap being sold by idiots that don't really know what they are talking about. Lots of good info available from Own Boss Academy for free, but I had to wait a crazy length of time to get into their course.
I read the other day that teaching English to Korean people is becoming popular now as well and they seem to have a better grasp of English than the Japanese, so maybe it is worth looking into.
Japanese uses a dual-syllabary. Korean uses an alphabet like English. I'm no linguist, but that's my guess as to why teaching Koreans is easier.
Teaching English as a second language doesn't require much initial training, but it does require boundless dedication. If one is a native speaker with an easy understanding of English and is willing to put in long hours making lesson plans and learning grammar, then getting TEFL certified might not be a bad way to make some extra money. Two of my nephews have had great success teaching English. One teaches over the internet. Another has taught all over Asia.
That is true, freelancing, especially as a writer, is an excellent way to make money online. You also make a lot of money writing articles with affiliate marketing.
