There are tons of reputable free affiliates on the web. I mean FREE, those that you are never asked to "upgrade" to anything. Basically you are a comission only salesman for them. Choose those that pay the best comission and those that have products you think you can get a market for. No point selling insurance if you think you have no idea where to sell it or simply you have no interest in it and so get bored promoting it. Promote something you like, you will get excited about. I think that there are quite a few affiliate programs that are good, and if you use adwords.google to advertise, then you get affiliates joining whatever programs.
Adwords can be expensive but if you spread the cost monthly, and have long term target, then it is possible to earn some good money. I mean, if you refer 2 people a day everyday for let's say 6 months, then it will start to be good. At some point, your affiliates will start buying whatever you are selling if the program is good.

I make money from google adsense. My income comes from adsense. Since global slow down I am experiencing reduction in income. I am also using odesk to make some extra income
