Just a side note, if I may - I used to shoot 3-4 hours of pool (billiards) a day. Was fairly good. Have gotten away from it, but some things that I got from some VERY good players 'stuck'...

I asked how much difference an expensive cue would make. Most answered that it might make a difference for some, but likely not for good players, as they could probably play well with a forked stick, as they understand the PRINCIPLES of the game, and how it all works. Good tools help, but much can be made up for with wisdom/experience...
