I just called a few banks regarding the famous austrian sparbuch account.
Here are the details ;
You will ALWAYS have to show your idendity to the bank( not anonymous like it used to be) BUT when there is less than 50K € in the account , your name is not mentioned in the sparbuch but only kept on record with the bank.
You can have a code with this account so that when you give your sparbuch to someone else he can take money out of the account with this code.
You can only make deposits and withdrawls in cash at the bank, no wires can be recieved or sent from such an account.
Interest rates vary from around 2 % (1 year) to 3% (3 year)
I am interested to know which banks you called to verify that these
are still real.
I actually have contact with a group that has some of these Sparbuchs
available. I thought it was a scam until I read some updated info. from
the person who called a couple of banks to verify these were still real.
Did you say that you could fund these from afar and then take the money
out via an ATM machine with a special ATM card that the bank provides
you with? Ask them if they provide a special ATM card that works worldwide.
I also heard that no new Sparbuch accounts were being made but you could
still get an old sparbuch and use it providing you could find someone who had some in stock or if someone else gave you their sparbuch.
Did those banks tell you that new sparbuchs were available for those willing to fly to the bank and open an account there? Or, is it the case that only old sparbuchs are available as I described in paragraph one above?

Just wondering if you found this out.......
FREEDOM
Bruce,
Why don't you as a PROVIDER of offshore services PICK UP the FU..... phone and call them yourself instead of asking questions to a novice like me ?
My information was that the sparbuch accounts were gone some years back. They needed to be converted. I never crossed paths with anyone who had one. Know lawyers who bank in Austria for clients.
