I believe the only reason for this move is the CBI's desire to curb inflation and foster the perception in Iraq's citizenry that the currency is stable so they will use it instead of the USD. We all know perception is reality and I hope they accomplish their mission. The CBI has been taking dinars off the street since November. If they put them back on I believe the rate will go back to 1470.
I believe their target is around 1260 before the end of March.

Interesting,
I have been in this since start, and although many were pushing to open accounts at Warka, as example, I saw no reason since I was not interested in investing in ISX at that point. The interest now is much higher than it was, so the risk vs. reward is different now than a few years ago.
I got most of my dinar from bank in Jordan, so I was paying same rate, so again, there was no advantage I saw. With all the bombing going on, I want my dinar in my hands, sort of speak. As to exchanging it, yes, if one had to, you can go to Chase and a few others, so there was no reason I could justify to want an account opened in Iraq. I like control over my investments, and having it in a third world country is not my idea of control.
Everyone has there own take on it, so do what is best for your situation. I am in this for the long haul, so I am not worried about it for when the time comes, every bank with exchange services will be more than willing to handle exchange. And besides that, the dollar is in trouble, so I will not be in any hurry to exchange for U.S. dollar, in fact, probably won't, will just use Offshore Debit card where currency is in other than U.S. dollars.
Good luck to all, Mike

Good point,
I agree, what we have been seeng is a demonstration of stability, an essential ingredient in us seeing a restoration of dinar to former levels. In every case, the CBI has met or exceeded expectations on stablility, and in Iraq, they seem more inclined to test the waters before acting, hence, we hear many ministers talking out of both sides of their mouths.
Yes, inflation is a huge issue, and to date, raising interest rates has had no impact, and now they are raising the value of dinar by removing dinar from streets, and this is the last strategy available to curb inflation, other than a restoration of value of dinar, so as I see it, this too will have little impact on inflation, which leaves only one last strategy, the one we have all been waiting on. Good luck to all, Mike

Re: Iraqi Dinar investments
I see on TV other countries investing in Iraq. Whatever some naysayers dribble about, this is definately worth a play with.

Re: Iraqi Dinar investments
Someone asked me the following question about the dinar..., if thousands of people are buying dinar for say $900 per million dinar, then one day the the dinar is 10 dinar to the dollar and they cash in their million dinar for $100,000-. Is it ultimately the Central Bank of Iraq which will be paying out these masses amounts of money causing a financial crisis?
How do I answer that??

Re: Iraqi Dinar investments
The exchange rate effects the value of currency in-hand compared to other currencies. Trading one for the other does not effect the reserves of the CBI.

Always be sure to run your Dinar under a blacklight to verify the UV ink security. I believe it starts at the 25K bills

Re: Iraqi Dinar investments
Hi all. Good read on this thread. I bought some dinar last year, but I wanna buy more. Anyone can recommend the best rates they are getting now for say 1million dinar? What price are you getting at Chase?
The best website price I could find was $825.00 per million dinar.
Any sites considered safer than others?
Thanks for the info....
