Ok, since I have opened an account at UniClear mainly because of their card I was curious about their opinion regarding this $500 CAD limit.
I have told them about the weird limit on their card and they said in their reply:

Who informed you of the $500 restriction? That is incorrect - our website is correct. Our debit card platform is unique to us and not the standard from Nextwave.
Melinda, did you check the ATM limits, too? Maybe the ATM has the $420 USD limit /day/card, not the UniClear card. By the way, you won't find too much ATMs in the world where you can withdraw $50000 CAD in one transaction. The most ATMs has the $300-$600 USD limit per day/card.

The ATM I used have a limit of 8000 SEK = $1065 USD per transaction.
No one would be happier then me if Uniclears info is the right one.
So it's a matter of who to believe, Uniclear or the card issuer and my own experiences.

Don't get me wrong, I believe you. But I got the answer you read from UniClear (through the internal message system).
May I ask you to discuss this problem with Ken at UniClear and then share the developments with us. We are curious if you simply got a card with the wrong set-up only or is it a real problem that UniClear has no knowledge about? Ken was totally surprised, as you read it before.
