I don't know why you would hope to be wrong about this. In my opinion, it would be great if a few federal agents started lurking around these boards. Perhaps we could put an end to all of the scamming.
Regardless, I doubt he is a federal agent, rather someone with as you say a degree of refinement.
My position on the raid is that I don't believe in this government interference with legitimate commerce. The only reason I am posting is because I have used e-gold and think it is a great service. My perspective has changed in the last three years based on what I read in the news. Just look at all the things that are happening in the US today. I don't want the constitution, the right to privacy, freedom and liberty to be lost. People don't realize how hard our founding fathers fought for these achievements.
The government should not have the ability to "listen" in to our phone conversations unless there is a very serious proven threat.
What is the point of these prosecutions? If someone is charged, do they really deserve "an extremely long jail sentence" in federal prison which has no parole for unknowingly violating a federal statute with no criminal intent? Does the found of e-gold intend for his company to violate the law. Or is he simply providing a great service to lots of happy users because they have found an ancient form of financial freedom (gold in the electronic age).
Put yourselves in the shoes of the founder of e-gold. What would you do?

I do owe you an apology. Please pardon my mistake. Best regards.
You seem to have given these topics a curiously large amount of research. While your comments are well presented, it makes me think that perhaps you and some others on this board may actually be federal agents. Another participant with a very similar perspective to yours and a degree of refinement (and possibly insider information) in his written statements is Own3D. I hope that I am wrong about this. I would rather be among friends.
hehe...I'm definitely not working for the "ABC" boys, to aptly quote Pluggy. Trust me when I say, there were LOTS of people that knew about this bust/raid and I am just in a position where I'm in the loop. Look at the article...James Turk (Goldmoney) commented, as well as Jim Davidson (GDCA, who also frequently posts at TG under a screename I prefer to keep private).
My views closely follow 1anonymousperson's in regards to personal freedoms and rights in the US. I too feel the Businessweak piece was out to get e-Gold...why I don't know, but they seized the moment and kicked e-Gold while they were down. Gold has never been viewed favorably in the US, so that could possibly be a factor.
My fears are that regulation in the industry is coming and this event doesn't help one bit. Can someone please explain to me why a company that is obviously doing e-Gold's volume has corporate offices in the US, servers in the US and is sitting on 6 inches of subpoenas...because I would love to know the answer to that $64K question? They should have had a f7cking team of investigators dealing with the Fed requests, not one guy.
One thing I dont know about the raid is what the US Feds were asking for. That is one subject that has been kept hush-hush and that I would love to know.
On a side note, I would be willing to bet my life that the SEC and CFTC regularly follow this board and TG would do well to make parts of this board private. This is something that Brian really needs to make happen....no reason to keep alot of this sh!t public.
