People who invest in ponzies are all scared on the web. The FBI and IRS has the Egold and Ingold list of members. If you invested in ponzies and filed taxes on those earnings, you laundered money (which is what they are looking for). If you did not file taxes on those illegal earnings, you are screwed too. There is no way to declare illegal earnings other than laundering them. It's like paying or not paying taxes on sales of cocaine.
I see this e-gold deal is reaching even people from out of the USA based on comments in financial-investing forums out there. Some members have been contacted by their country authorities for investigation, out of the US. I think it had to do with their large 4x accounts or something like that.
Ponzies are illegal in most civilized countries of this world and FBI is known to share crime data with other countries to crackdown on crooks so it is understandable. A woman in canada was sentenced to prison for 9 years about 6 months ago for participating in and promoting ponzies.
Careful, people.

i'm kinda glad egold WAS investigated. think about what happened to all the stolen egold. just gone. it didn't have to be that way. egold has the means to reverse charges. they just refuse to do it. hopefully charge backs will be allowed in egold which will make scammers go away or find another no chargeback anonymous payment optin.
I'd hate to see e-gold go, it would be a big loss, but I wouldn't say the government is concerned about stopping people from thinking outside the box. They just want to try and stop theft, the sale of stolen identities, the theft of credit card info, and most importantly the sale of child *****graphy. E-gold is too anonymous in my opinion. I believe there should be some type of regulation put in place. Perhaps a simple thing like providing a name and address for confirmation. This would stop many of the internet crimes related to e-gold. Would it stop HYIPs? Probably not! All in all, most HYIPs that are scams, don't steal enough money to force a large investigation. E-gold would not be prohibited to divulge information on users unless provided with a court order. As most of you know, unfortunately most people who lose money in HYIPs realize they took a chance in the beginning, and don't try and track down the person that scammed them.
With this said, I also belive that if E-gold were to either be shut down or have strict regulations put on them, there would just be another company that opens up and takes it's place. The US government has some say over what e-gold does because of the fact that their office and founder are in the US. Other countries wouldn't give a crap about it.
Something definetly needs to be done about internet crime, and if it means putting regulations on e-gold, so-be-it.
