10 Popular Knockoffs of Digg.com
We all Love Digg, especially me, its the best, and most used social link site online. I just thought that it was kinda interesting to see some of the companies trying to copy Diggs success to no avail. Many of them claim to be better then Digg, yet they are just clones of the site, with less traffic and less activity. Go figure:
1 - Propeller
Netscape’s clone of the Digg. They had a big boost in getting started since at first they used the actual netscape domain. For those of you who browsed the net a decade ago, you would know that Netscape was the browser of choise among web surfers. They couldn’t keep up with competition, so I don’t know what they are thinking. Having said this The site is rather popular but still only gets approximately 10% of the activity Digg.com does.
2 - Mixx.com
Mixx is basically the most popular direct copy of Digg there is. They claim that they are a spam free digg.com, yet its pretty clear that they have just as much spam if not more then digg, plus less activity by about 97% in traffic terms.
3 - Care2.com
This site, although it is a copy of digg, I don’t want to say all that much bad about them. They might lie about having 8,870,000 members, especially since Digg isn’t even close to having that many members, but at least the site centers around environmental issues. That’s good.
4 - Searchles.com
You gotta give them credit for adapting the script a bit, but the site has the same exact purpose of digg, and clearly is a clone. They also have some differences in that they allow you to target certain groups and join groups.
5 - sk-rt.com
This is another site that is almost a direct clone of Digg. The only difference is the ugliness.
6 - Plime.com
Plime is another almost direct clone of Digg, except the design is a little simpler. They claim “Plime is a pliable tree of interesting links, cultivated and pruned by everyone.” Why not just use Digg.com?
7 - Sphinn.com
This site actually has a little more creativity, and is targetted for a niche, “Internet Marketting”. This is one of the few Digg clones that I look at on a semi-daily basis. A lot of the info here is not foudn on digg, but thats because unlike the other clones this is catered towards a different audience.
8 - Dzone.com
This is another digg clone that is at least targetted to a certain niche. In this case web developers. This site can be useful if you are a developer as it is targetted just for you. They also innovated a bit with the script.
9 - Shoutwire.com.com
Just another digg clone. Bland design, but its worth mentioning since some of the ads are nice to look at.
10 - bringr.com.com
Well, obviously this Digg Clone is made by a woman. Just go there and you will see what we mean. Actually I would have expected a better design. This is the Digg for women. As we know about 0.0004% of people on digg are female, so as you would imagine this site has little activity.
